Dear Sir, - May I express my grateful thanks to you for publishing my short story "The Scarlet Slipper". I feel quite honoured by the very handsome way in which the story was produced and illustrated. Would you very kindly convey my congratulations to the artist, Miss E. H. Stanton, on her two charming illustrations and she may be interested to know that quite unconsciously, she produced a remarkably close resemblance to the living original from which I drew "Pauline", one leg, stump and all! The living "Pauline" wishes me to add her thanks and congratulations to my own. By the way I should imagine that this is the first time that any periodical has ever published a short story, with illustrations, featuring a pretty, one-legged heroine. It would indeed be interesting to know how your readers regard the somewhat daring experiment. Once again thanking you and hoping to have he honour of pleasing you again with my work. I am sir,
Yours very sincerely,
Wallace Stort
